Raw-cut cuttlefish strips
Cuttlefish strips are cleaned cuttlefish, skin, bone and viscera removed, raw cut into batons and frozen. They arrive ready to use: no cleaning or cutting needed, and the regular cut gives even frying and consistent plating.
The species is Sepia pharaonis, the pharaoh cuttlefish, found in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific. Its firm white flesh holds its shape well when cut and cooked, which makes it particularly suited to strips. If you prefer to cut your own portions, see our frozen cleaned cuttlefish in sizes U/1 to 3/5.
Packed in 5 kg boxes for foodservice
Cuttlefish strips come in a 5 kg box, a manageable size for professional kitchens, tapas bars and catering, and practical for wholesalers supplying the foodservice channel. It stores easily in the freezer and lets you take out only what you need.
Other details such as inner packing or glazing can be adjusted to each customer’s specification. Write to us via our contact page with volume and destination and we will send you a proposal.
Uses: battering, frying and stir-fries
The most common use for cuttlefish strips is battered or floured and fried, a classic tapa and portion dish in Spanish foodservice. They also work very well stir-fried over high heat with vegetables, in rice dishes and fideuà, or in warm seafood salads.
For processors, cuttlefish strips are a ready-prepared raw material for frozen battered products, ready meals and seafood mixes. They complete Tunatunes’ range of frozen cephalopods alongside squid rings, another format designed for frying.
Storage and preparation
Store the strips at −18 °C or below until use. Thaw them in the refrigerator at 0–4 °C, in a container that lets the water drain away. Once thawed, they should not be refrozen.
Pat them dry with kitchen paper before battering: a dry surface helps flour or tempura batter stick and gives a crisp result without water spitting in the oil.
