Loligo duvauceli, a tender, fine-textured squid

Loligo duvauceli, now also classified as Uroteuthis duvaucelii and known as Indian squid, lives in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and Western Pacific. It belongs to the Loligo family, like European squid, and shares its white, fine and tender flesh.

That texture makes it a kitchen favourite: it handles griddling and frying well without toughening when cooked quickly, and it cuts cleanly. It is a common alternative to European squid when buyers need volume and a reliable supply.

Cleaned squid tubes: sizes U/5 to U/10

A squid tube is the cleaned mantle, with guts, quill, head and tentacles removed, so it reaches the kitchen practically ready to slice or stuff. It saves labour and reduces waste at the point of sale.

We supply sizes from U/5 to U/10. "U" stands for "under": U/5 means fewer than 5 pieces per unit of weight, usually per kilo, and U/10 fewer than 10, so slightly smaller pieces. Grading basis, packing and glazing are confirmed according to each customer's specification. If you prefer to start from whole squid, see our whole Patagonian squid.

Made for foodservice and processing

Cleaned tubes are the most convenient format for restaurants, catering and central kitchens: cut into rings, strips or dice, stuff them whole or griddle them butterflied. Processors use them for stuffed products, ready meals and prepared dishes.

For an even smaller and more tender product, our cleaned baby squid is the natural companion. See every format on our wholesale frozen squid page.

Frequently asked questions

What do U/5 and U/10 mean for squid tubes?

"U" stands for "under". U/5 means fewer than 5 tubes per unit of weight, usually per kilo; U/10 means fewer than 10, so smaller pieces. We confirm the grading basis in every offer.

Are the squid tubes fully cleaned?

Yes. The tube is the mantle with guts, quill, head and tentacles removed, ready to cut, stuff or cook. It is the format that needs the least handling in the kitchen.

Are Loligo duvauceli and Uroteuthis duvaucelii the same species?

Yes. It is the same squid; current scientific classification places it in the genus Uroteuthis, but the trade still widely uses the name Loligo duvauceli.

What packing and glazing do the squid tubes have?

Packing and glazing are defined according to each customer and market. Tell us what you need using the form on this page or our contact page and we will send you a proposal.
