About yellowfin tuna
Yellowfin is one of the most traded tuna species in the world. It is recognised by its very long second dorsal and anal fins and the yellow band along its sides. It lives in warm waters in all oceans and reaches a large size, which makes it highly profitable for cutting.
The meat is light pink, firm and mild in flavour, with moderate fat. That versatility explains why it is used both in premium canned tuna and in loins, steaks and food service.
Frozen yellowfin for canning, cutting and distribution
We offer whole round yellowfin in pieces over 20 kg, the format canneries and cutting plants look for to obtain high-yield loins. For distributors, the whole fish makes it possible to adapt the cut to each end customer.
If you would rather receive the fish already processed, see our vacuum-packed yellowfin tuna loins. If you need a tuna with higher fat content, take a look at our frozen bigeye tuna.
Size and specifications
- Weight per piece: over 20 kg.
- Format: whole round.
- State: frozen, at −18 °C or below.
- Packing and other specifications: to customer specification; ask us.
In the industry, tuna intended to be eaten raw is ultra-frozen at very low temperatures to preserve colour and texture. If that is your use, mention it when you request a quote so we can suggest the right option.
Storage and thawing
Keep yellowfin at −18 °C or below until use. Fish of this size are best thawed slowly in a chiller at 0–4 °C, so the meat keeps its texture and colour. It must not be refrozen once thawed.
You will find the rest of our species on the frozen tuna page, and you can send us your enquiry from the contact page.
Uses of whole yellowfin tuna
- Premium canned tuna and tuna in oil.
- Cutting into loins, steaks and cubes.
- Food service: grilling, stews and marinades.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between yellowfin and bigeye tuna?

How heavy are the yellowfin pieces?
We supply whole yellowfin in pieces over 20 kg. If you need a specific range, mention it in your request and we will confirm availability.
Do you also sell yellowfin loins?
Yes. Besides the whole fish, we offer frozen, vacuum-packed yellowfin tuna loins in 1 to 3 kg pieces.
Can I order yellowfin for raw consumption?
Tell us the intended use when you request a quote. We will let you know which options we can offer and with which specifications, so the product fits your needs.
